The Jerry Jingle Highway
Written and Photographed by Nancy Clover

I had a friend who was visiting me and she said “Oh, you are off the Jerry Jingle Highway”. I was not sure what she was talking about, but apparently that was the old name for the Lynn Fells Parkway.
Google turned up this:
Mary Marchant of the historical society of Stoneham says the road was named after a merchant from the early 19th century whose first name was Jerry. The peddler would take his horse and wagon along the road to sell his items, including pots and pans, which jingled along the way, and thus the road came to be known as Jerry Jingle Highway.
A restaurant on the Lynn Fells Parkway used to be named Jerry Jingle, but today is J.J. Grimsby.
There is also a diminutive park with gazebo - the Jerry Jingle Park, part of the Middlesex Fells Reservation. The park is next to the Dunkin Donuts.
I love the sound of the “Jerry Jingle Highway”. Long time Melrosians probably already know this, but I found it fascinating!
