Energy Alignment Center

Skeptics — stay with me on this one.
A new service recently opened in Melrose: the Energy Alignment Center. I’ll admit, I was intrigued — and tried to keep an open mind. My view has always been: if a wellness practice works for someone and has no harmful side effects, then I’m all for it.
I spoke with the owner, Lorie Callahan, and booked an appointment. When I arrived, another participant, Laura, was already there. The room was quiet, dark, cool, and very comfortable. We each lay on individual cots with cozy blankets, setting the stage for what promised to be a deeply calming experience.
The session began with soft, ambient sounds — gentle instruments that mimicked the rhythm of falling rain, designed to quiet the mind. Mine, however, was anything but quiet. For the first ten minutes, it felt like a freight train of thoughts: What am I doing here? Is this working? Am I doing it right?
And then — suddenly — Lorie’s calm voice signaled the end of the session. A full hour had passed. I hadn’t fallen asleep or even dozed off; I heard every note, every vibration, from the delicate bells to the resonant tones of crystal singing bowls.
So, what’s the theory behind this?
Sound healing and vibrational therapy use frequencies and rhythms to guide the body from a waking, often stressed state into a deep state of relaxation, which is thought to promote healing. While I can’t speak to the deeper claims, I can absolutely say: the deep relaxation part is real.
