Melrose Marathoners

Melrose has a proud history of marathon greatness and was home to two legendary runners.
Bill Rodgers, a marathon icon, famously won the Boston Marathon four times, including three consecutive victories from 1978 to 1980. He also dominated the New York City Marathon with four straight wins between 1976 and 1979, earning his place among the greatest long-distance runners in history.
Clarence DeMar, a pioneer of American distance running, claimed an astonishing seven Boston Marathon titles and brought home a bronze medal from the 1924 Paris Olympics—forever cementing his place in marathon lore.
That tradition of excellence lives on today.
This Monday, April 15, the 128th Boston Marathon kicks off, and once again, Melrose will be proudly represented by a group of incredible athletes taking on the ultimate test of endurance and spirit.
