Early Voting for State Primary Begins Saturday

Early voting for the state primary election will begin at City Hall on Saturday morning and will continue through next week. The regular election will be held on Tuesday, September 1st at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.
While Republican voters will see only one contested race on their ballot, voters who take a Democratic ballot will see six contested races. (Registered Democrats and Republicans may only take a primary ballot for their party, but unenrolled voters may choose to take either ballot.)
The one contested race on the Republican ballot is for Governor, between Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve.
The six contested races on the Democratic ballot are for :
- Senator - between incumbent Ed Markey and Congressman Seth Moulton
- Congressperson - among incumbent Katherine Clark and challengers Jonathan Paz and Tarik Samman
- State Senator - among current state representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian and Malden city councilors Ryan O'Malley and Carey McDonald. Read our interviews with the candidates here.

- Governor's Councillor - between incumbent Terrence Kennedy and challenger Diann Baylis
- District Attorney - between incumbent Marian Ryan and challenger David Solet
Residents can vote in this election in three ways:
- In-person on Election Day (Tuesday, September 1st) at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, from 7am to 8pm
- In-person Early Voting at City Hall on the following dates:
- Saturday, August 22nd - 9am to 5pm
- Monday, August 24th through Thursday, August 27th - 8:30am to 4pm
- Friday, August 28th - 8:30am to 12:30 pm
- Vote by Mail (must complete a mail-in ballot request form by Tuesday, August 25th - even if you have voted by mail in previous elections!)
