State Primary Election Results: Lipper-Garabedian, Migliorelli Win

Melrose voters saw a number of contested races in the state primary election this year, and we have the results of those races here.
There were six contested races on the Democratic ballot, below:
State Representative: Leila Migliorelli
The 32nd Middlesex district for state representative, which includes Melrose and parts of Malden and Wakefield, was choosing between two Democratic candidates: Congressional staffer Jay Higgins and former Melrose City Council President Leila Migliorelli. Migliorelli won with 71.5% of the vote overall, and 76.9% of the vote in Melrose. Higgins, who is a Malden resident, won 62% of the vote in the two precincts of Malden that are part of the district, while Migliorelli won 67% of the vote in the three precincts of Wakefield that are part of the district.
State Senator: Kate Lipper-Garabedian
Melrose was also selecting among three Democratic candidates for state senator: current State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian and current Malden City Councilors Carey McDonald and Ryan O'Malley. Lipper-Garabedian won with 61% of the vote overall, and 78.7% of the vote in Melrose. McDonald received 25% of the vote overall and 14.5% in Melrose, and O'Malley received 14% of the vote overall and 6.8% in Melrose.
U.S. Congress: Katherine Clark
Congresswoman Katherine Clark was facing two challengers, Jonathan Paz and Tarik Samman. Clark won with 74% of the vote overall, and 79.8% of the vote in Melrose. Paz received 20% of the vote overall and 15.2% in Melrose, and Samman received 6% of the vote overall and 5% in Melrose.
U.S. Senate: Ed Markey
Congressman Seth Moulton challenged Senator Ed Markey for his seat. Markey won with 65% of the vote overall and 66% of the vote in Melrose.

Governor's Council: Terrence Kennedy
Diann Baylis challenged sitting Governor's Councilor Terrence Kennedy for his seat. Kennedy won with 58% of the vote overall, and 61.7% of the vote in Melrose.
District Attorney: Marian Ryan
David Solet challenged sitting District Attorney Marian Ryan. Ryan won with 79% of the vote in Melrose.
Republican for Governor: Mike Minogue
The one contested race on the Republican primary ballot was for governor, between Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve. Minogue won with 76% of the vote overall, and 79.4% of the vote in Melrose.
The primary election saw 32.6% turnout in Melrose, with 6,043 registered voters taking a Democratic ballot and 1,012 taking a Republican ballot. This was higher turnout than the last state primary election, in September 2024, when 20% of Melrose voters turned out.
