31st MAAV Walk Brings Together Community For Domestic Violence Prevention
By Ellen Putnam
The 31st Annual Melrose Alliance Against Violence (MAAV) Walk to End Domestic Violence took place last Sunday, bringing together hundreds of community members and raising more than $70,000 to support MAAV’s programs.
This year's program began with activities and information about community resources in the middle school cafeteria. Then, after a brief speaking program and a performance by Melrose High School's Red Hawkapella, participants headed out on the two-mile course.
Walking teams represented a range of community organizations, including civic groups, religious organizations, and school groups and sports teams. MAAV's Student Action Board led the walk.
MAAV runs a number of community programs aimed at supporting healthy relationships and helping people in crisis, including education programs in the Melrose Public Schools and survivor support services.
