Arline and Rudy Lizotte

A love story more than 75 years in the making... can you imagine?
In a world that moves so quickly, Arline (95) and Rudy Lizotte (98) of Melrose remind us what steady, enduring love looks like.
What’s their secret to a long marriage?
“Be happy. What is there to fight about?”
Simple. Honest. Timeless.
Their home is filled with the treasures of four generations — photographs lining the walls, milestones captured in frames, and the laughter of a growing family. Their youngest great-grandchild is 16. Seventy-five years of marriage has grown into a legacy.
Their story began in a small town in Maine — love at first sight. Rudy left to serve four years in the Navy, stationed in Guam. When he returned, he worked at the mill and would walk by Arline’s house, gathering the courage to ask her to the movies. He finally did. They were married a year later.

They built their lives side by side in the mills — Rudy in the weaving room, Arline in wool spinning. Shared purpose. Shared dreams. Together, they raised four sons.
Arline became known for her blueberry pie — the kind that brings everyone back to the table. They traveled far beyond their hometown roots, taking an epic road trip from Maine to Key West and exploring multiple National Parks. Their first car was a pickup truck — and their dog always insisted on sitting in the middle seat.
They share everything: a morning cup of coffee, a laugh, sometimes tears. But always — always — love.
Rudy’s takeaway is beautifully uncomplicated: Be happy.
After 75 years together, that advice carries weight.
Their story isn’t just about longevity. It’s about partnership. Commitment. Choosing joy. Every single day.
Here’s to a lifetime of holding hands, sharing coffee, taking the long way home, and sitting close — even when there’s plenty of room.
Happy Valentines Day!
