Melrose is a little more colorful with artists like Deb Corbett.
Deb, an award-winning artist with a home studio here in Melrose, uses mixed media and abstract painting. She draws heavily on the colors of the southwest after visiting Santa Fe, utilizing warm earth tones, blues, and greens.
Deb makes her own paper and collects vintage paper for her collages.
She explains, being an artist is being true to yourself and following what's in your heart. Her paintings are full of joy. The abstract work allows the viewer to use their imagination and interpret the piece.
Deb is a founding member of the non-profit Melrose Arts which supports the arts in Melrose. They sponsor and organize the annual arts festival, artists' window walk, and the open studio tours. The next open studio tour is Nov 16 & 17.
There are about 70 artists in our community. Most are solo, so it is nice that the artists have a community to share ideas and inspiration.
On Sunday, Aug 25th, there will be an artistic meet-and-greet at Hannah’s Brewery from 2-4. It is open to all creative minds.
One of the things Deb loves about Melrose is the Public Library, which has an extensive art book collection.
What she thinks is quirky in Melrose – Houdini had a friend in Melrose and visited often.
