The Melrose Messenger

Keeping Melrosians Informed Since 2024

Little Free Libraries

Melrose is a book lover’s delight, thanks to its vibrant network of Little Free Libraries — those charming little boxes brimming with books and community spirit. Operating on a simple “take a book, leave a book” philosophy, these mini libraries promote literacy, spark curiosity, and bring neighbors together one book at a time.

Some of them are colorfully decorated, and many even change themes with the seasons—adding a festive touch year-round! One of the most delightful examples? A repurposed dollhouse turned book nook on Linwood Ave. It’s absolutely adorable and hands-down my personal favorite. I just found another dollhouse repurposed on Grove St near Main. So cute.

Believe it or not, Melrose is home to over 20 of these literary gems! Whether you're strolling to the park or running errands, chances are you're never far from a free book.

If you know of one that’s not listed, feel free to share — it’s always a joy to discover a new one!

Thank you to all that maintain these little libraries. You are appreciated.

Happy reading, Melrose! And don’t forget: the right book might just be waiting for you around the next corner.
